Chinese Pistache
6 x 6 |
There is this small Chinese Pistache tree outside of my studio window. The past few weeks it has been turning all kinds of colors. But last weekend it was at it's peak and I did several paintings of it. All I had to do was open my studio window to paint it "plein air." Several days later it started fading and today the branches are bare. This tree really put on a spectacular color show, better than I have seen in many years.

Roadside Trees
I pass these trees nearly every day and they just fascinate me, the way they change with the seasons and the different times of the day. I just love to paint them and have done it many times. I don't know what kind of these they are, but really need to find out. I will paint them again as the colors change this fall.

Canyon Colors of Santa Elena
Well, I am back after a summer of non blogging and not much painting, either. I took some time off to refresh after getting a rut where nothing was turning out the way I wanted. But now I am back in the groove and enthusiastic. This picture I did from a photo I took when we visited the Big Bend in the springtime I wish I had been there with my paints and time to spend. My husband and I were on a quickie day trip and anxious to get home after being gone for several weeks. I hope to get back there soon with paint and time.

Quiet Beach
While visiting a friend in Florida in January, we went to this beach one morning. There was no one there at that time except for one fisherman and his dog. The beach will remain unnamed at this time to protect its identity. I did hear, though, that it was not unknown to the spring breakers. The scene looked quite different at that time.

Barnyard Bunch
This wonderful old rock barn is in town of Mason which is just 50 miles from here. Their rock is so different from the limestone we have all around us. The Mason rock is a kind of sandstone in many shades of browns and reds.

A Walk Among the Ruins
This is from a photograph I took several years ago in Corfu, Greece. I loved the way the light and shadows fell. I have so many photos I want to make into paintings I wonder when I will find the time to do them and paint plein air too. And to complicate things more, the wildflowers this year in the Hill Country are promising to be spectacular. So I am busy already in that direction.

Strolling in Longwood Gardens
It was a beautiful day when I was at Longwood Gardens last spring. Many things were in full bloom and with the brilliant light, it was gorgeous. This was conceived but not executed en plein air. Actually, I did not see any artists set up that day and was a little surprised by that. I have never seen such perfection in a garden - not a dead leaf or broken twig to be seen. One of the many attractions in the Wilmington Delaware area.
